Local Area

Lunigiana

We are located in an area that remains authentic and unspoiled and, in September 2021, was included in the UNESCO Mab Reserve (Man and the Biosphere), encompassing all of Lunigiana. This region offers breathtaking views and a thousand-year history, spanning from the ancient Stele Statues to the feudal lords who oversaw the construction of fortified villages and over 80 castles.

The Via Francigena

Not to be overlooked is the Via Francigena, which crosses Lunigiana from north to south, a vital communication corridor between central and northern Italy. Throughout the Middle Ages and up to the Napoleonic era it held enormous strategic importance, serving not only armies but also pilgrims and merchants traveling from England and France to reach Rome.

The Appennino Tosco Emiliano National Park

A park that serves as a natural divide between the continental climate of Emilia, typical of Central Europe, and the Mediterranean climate zone of Tuscany. This creates extraordinary biodiversity in these still unexplored areas, far from mass tourism, where hidden flavours and scents are can still be discovered.

Piagnaro Castle and Museum of the Stele Statues

The Stele Statues, discovered in the territory of historical Lunigiana over the years, represent an ancient and mysterious heritage. The Museum of the Stele Statues of Lunigiana is housed in the beautiful Piagnaro Castle in Pontremoli.
